Reading Break Cycle Trip to Olympic Peninsula 7 Months ago
Hey just mulling over the idea of a trip down to the Olympic Peninsula during reading break and trying to see if there's interest.

Park info: www.nps.gov/olym/index.htm

The trip will be between the 17th and 21st, dates to be finalized

You need a passport as it's in the US.

It seems like a pretty easy ride, less than 50km to the campsite from the ferry. If you have a bike you can rent a rack from ORRC potentially. I may have a spare set of panniers but I dunno yet.

Really just checking for interest. We'd likely do a day or two at the old growth forest campsite and then move to the hotsprings for a day or two before heading back.

The boat will be 20 bucks USD for foot passenger and bicycle. Campsites I haven't look into but shouldn't be too bad.

Who's game?

Here's a map for an idea of our options, B is a basic campsite with no water in the winter, C is in the old growth forest and has hot springs and D is another hot springs destination. There are hiking trails between all of these so we could get some hiking in and leave the bikes somewhere overnight as an option. Take a look:

If the route doesn't show up just hit "get directions"

I don't have a road bike anymore...only my mountain bike, otherwise I would be interested.

I have a spare road bike potentially. Very iffy as it's just an old commuter that works for that but not so confident about a tour.

Just a reminder you need a passport for this trip.

The 17th - 21st area works for me as well so we'll work in that window.

edit: updated first post.

The Ferry schedule is kinda balls, the only ferry leaves Victoria at 4pm and crosses in 90mins, thus we will not arrive until after dark.
The best option I've found so far is to stay one night at Thor Town hostel.

Here are some of my thoughts as to an itinerary:

    Feb 16th -Leave Victoria 4pm ferry ($20USD)
    -stay Thor Town Hostel ($14USD)

Feb 17th -Bike Tour (aprox 60-65km) to Sol Duc Camp
($12USD per site, no running Water)

Feb 18th -Hike around Sol Duc old growth

Feb 19th -Bike tour (aprox 55-60km) to Elwha Camp
          ($12usd per site,no running water)

Feb 20th -Hike Boulder Creek Trail & Hot Springs!!
(10km bike from Elwha camp, 4km easy hike to hot springs)

Feb 21st -Ferry back to Vic (8:20am or 2pm*)(*Fri,Sat,Sun only)

Does anyone think that the bike days are too ambitious for them? What are your guys thoughts?

Google map with my proposed route

              Hey,
What type of bikes (road or mountain) is everyone riding?
I only have a mountain bike, so if folks are riding all road, I won't be going.

No one is riding a Mt Bike. But do come to Wednesdays meeting and ask the club members to borrow a bike or rent it from them for stupid cheap. Also try putting a post on the forum asking for a bike, Facebook and even send out txt messages until someone gives you that bike... don't take no for an answer, because I won't.

As I said, I have a dumpy commuter that would need a girl seat and a rack. It would probably make it. Probably.
