Team Diabetes Fundraiser Hike

Hike with Team Diabetes and Make a Difference!

“We realized Team Diabetes had created something more than just a run, or fundraiser, or trip. Team Diabetes is an opportunity to support a cause that touches people worldwide and at the same time changes your life forever. The completion of each Team Diabetes event is very emotional and brings hope and the feeling that a cure can be found.” Kim Konias, Team Diabetes participant whose daughter has Type 1 Diabetes.

Team Diabetes is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2010 and since the program’s inception, over 4,000 team members have raised $23.5 million in support of diabetes education, research, advocacy and programs but a lot more still needs to be done. You can help the Canadian Diabetes Association get closer to its goals by following in Kim’s footsteps and hiking with Team Diabetes in the Grand Canyon or Costa Rica!

Conquer the Canyon

Conquer the Grand Canyon this September and discover why it’s considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world. In this place of magnificent beauty, you will hike the trails accompanied by an expert guide who will interpret the intricacies of the geology, history, flora, fauna and environmental zones of the Canyon as you walk amidst mile-high, multicolored rock walls and craggy cliffs.

Date: October 17, 2010

Fundraising Amount: $4,900

Registration Deadline: April 16, 2010

Conquer the Volcano

If you’re looking for a tropical adventure challenge, conquer volcanoes in Costa Rica’s Rincon de la Vieja National Park in May 2011. On this exclusive hike, you will experience both extinct and live volcanoes as well as an unending array of unique wildlife in its natural habitat. Your local naturalist guide will find multiple species of rare birds, sloth or monkeys hiding in the treetops and will provide in-depth information about the natural history and local culture.

Date: May 6, 2011

Fundraising Amount: $6,100

Registration Deadline: October 29, 2010

For reaching the fundraising minimum, team members receive:

· One-day, guided hike (average of 6 to 9 hours depending on the trail and level of difficulty you choose)

· Return airfare (from a gateway city: Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton)

· Four nights of accommodation at the destination

· Three, on-site team functions (dinners and welcome reception)
